Sparta Celebrates Christmas

Sparta’s Old Fashioned Christmas really gets rolling tonight {Tuesday, December 6} at the Civic Center {75 North Union Street} from 6:00 to 8:00 PM, when you can have Supper With Santa.  $1.00 per person includes hot dogs and popcorn as well as photos with Santa, crafts, and cookie decorating.

Then on Thursday, December 8th from 6 pm – 8 pm it is Pet Night with Santa in the Santa House! Get a free photo with a pet food or cash donation to the Humane Society.

The Santa Train & Kids Parade is Saturday, December 10th.  Enter the free raffle to win a chance to ride with Mr. & Mrs. Claus in the kids parade. Santa Train arrives Saturday morning at 10:10 AM, then the Kids Parade to the Santa House starts after the Santa Train departs.  Santa Hours are 10:30 AM to noon.  Santa’s Reindeer are there from 9:00 AM to noon, and there are free horse and wagon rides from 11 am to 1 pm.

Also on Saturday, December 10th is the Round Again Elf Workshop.  From 10:00 AM to noon kids are welcome to stop by the Elf workshop to pick out and wrap a surprise gift for free!

Kids can also visit Santa in the Santa House {This is WAY BETTER THAN THE MALL!!} on at 94 North Union Street Saturday, December 17th from 10:00 AM to noon and again Thursday, December 22 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

Saturday, December 24th fr0m6:00 PM  to 9:oo PM  there will be Horse Drawn Trolley Rides through Harper Drive in Sparta.  The loading zone and treats are at the Sparta Fire Department.

December 2 Tree Lighting and Ice Skating at the Grand Rapids Art Museum

Friday, December 2 head down to the Grand Rapids Art Museum’s Wege Plaza (outdoors) to watch the Official Tree Lighting Ceremony from 5:15 to 5:30. This tree is forty feet tall!

Then, the Rosa Parks Circle Ice Rink officially opens too, and the Eastern Great Lakes Figure Skating Association will entertain the crowd in a season opening performance. At 5:45, the Rink is open to the public with $1.00 for skating and FREE skate rental with ID.

Free horse-drawn carriage rides are available from 6:00 to 8:00pm; no ticket necessary for the rides.  Just look for the pick-up station along Louis Street. Carriage rides are available from 6:00 to 8:00pm.

December 7 Kentwood Tree Lighting

The Kentwood Christmas Tree Lighting Spectacular is Wednesday, December 7 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at the Kentwood Activities Center, 355 48th Street SE.  It’s FREE, and there will be:

  • A Candy Cane Hunt for kids 6:00pm
  • Refreshments 6:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Pictures with Santa 7:00pm – 8:00pm
  • Tree Lighting 7:00pm
  • Caroling 7:00pm – 7:30pm
  • Flashlight Hunt for Adults 7:30pm

December 4 Holiday Open House at the Ford Museum

The Gerald R Ford Museum {303 Pearl Street, Grand Rapids} is holding its Holiday Open House on Sunday, December 4 from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  Admission is free, and there will be a visit from Santa and Mrs. Claus, holiday music, and storytelling for children!

December 3 Kentwood-Wyoming Santa Parade

Santa will be coming to Wyoming and Kentwood. The Wyoming-Kentwood Area Chamber of Commerce Santa Parade will have bands, mascots, floats and lots of surprises. Perk up your holiday spirit at this annual event that is quickly becoming a family tradition!  It is Saturday, December 3 at 10:00 AM.  The parade starts on South Division and 34th Street and heads south to Brann’s.

December 3 Rockford Santa Parade Rockford

Rockford residents welcome the man in red downtown Rockford during its annual Santa Claus Parade. Santa arrives in style in a horse-drawn carriage during the parade and follows his arrival with a visit to the Rotary Pavilion after the parade. In the pavilion, Santa visits with all the good little girls and boys and hears their wish list. Children’s activities occur in the pavilion to make the wait a little less intense.  Parade is at 11AM, and events go through 3:00 PM.

December 3 Lowell Night Time Christmas Parade

Lowell will have it’s annual Christmas Parade Saturday December 3rd at 6pm.  Lowell does it up for Christmas, and they have other Christmas Festivities during the day like the Flat River Freeze Ice Sculpture Demo, Santa Visits and Pictures, “Christmas Tea”, Rudolph’s Craft Workshop, Christmas Shopping and Eateries, and more!

November 19 Hudsonville Santa Parade

The Hudsonville Holiday Parade is Saturday, November 19, at 10:00 AM. It starts at Highland Drive and 32nd Avenue, then proceeds north on 32nd Avenue to Central Blvd. The parade ends at the fire station where the children can meet Santa and his live reindeer! Everyone is invited for refreshments.
