Tuesday, June 18th is Two For Tuesday at John Ball Park Zoo.  The Zoo is open until 8pm, and they have special activities and TWO-FOR-ONE admission from 6pm – 8pm.

Tuesday, June 18th is Mr. Chops’ Birthday, and he will set a Guinness Book World Record for being the oldest pig.  Yes this is really a thing. To celebrate, visitors are encouraged to come out to the Critter Barn between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. where you can greet Mr. Chops, see Jenny Lou perform her famous tricks and get cake and punch for the kids.

Tuesday, June 18th is the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at East Grand Rapids High School.  The fun gets underway at 11:00 am and participants can be part of a world’s record. Wednesday, June 19 at 6:30 PM at the Sand Lake branch of the Kent District Library is Magic: Can You Dig It?  Tom Plunkard presents an amazing program filled with live animals and loads of audience participation. Witness flowers appearing on your head and garden utensils vanishing and reappearing in the craziest places. For all ages.

Thursday, June 20 is the 1st Annual Breton Village Summer Solstice Block Party at Breton Village Mall.  Celebrate the official beginning of summer with specials and activities at different stores; including a costumed character Froggy joins Pooh’s Corner Bookstore for story time at 10:30 am and again at 1:30 pmAt jb and me they will have fun activities for the kids outside, such as chalk art, bubbles, hula hooping and story time at 11am and 1pm. Brush Studio will offer Open Paint for $15 which includes a 16″ x 20″ canvas and all the supplies.  There will also be a visit from the Ice Cream Truck from 1-4pm.

Thursday, June 20 is Kids Day at the Metro Health Village Farmer’s Market from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Kids will receive a shopping bag, and the first 200 kids arriving after 10:00 will receive a $2 coin to spend at the market. There will be a tractor pull, games, scavenger hunt, chalk, and prizes!

Thursday, June 20 is the Strawberry Shortcake Festival from 11am to 1pm at Rosa Parks Circle. The Kiwanis club members will dish out more than 500 strawberries to office workers, children, and families over the Thursday lunch hour. The large serving of shortcake, ice cream, strawberries, and real whipped cream is called the “works” all for a $5 donation. Advance tickets are $4.

Thursday, June 20 at 6:30 PM at the Byron Township branch of the Kent District library see Joel Tacey’s Underground Comedy Show; a  a subterranean celebration of reading! Join Michigan’s family funnyman on an exciting adventure as he takes the gift of books to Paulie the Possum’s Birthday Party with comedy, juggling, magic, music and more. For all ages.
