It’s time! My annual “Active Kids” page is back up with all of the great community bike and foot races for kids to participate in.

I love that most of these are free; because that means all kids get a chance to participate. A friend of mine who grew up without much money told me once that she became a runner not because she loved to run; but because as a kid, track shoes were the only sports equipment her family could afford.

Unlike expensive pads and other gear; running shoes and bikes are within the reach of most families.  But what if even those are not affordable?

You know we are a very bike-friendly family, and that my husband leads the charge on that effort. He told me about The Motion Initiative, a very cool organization that makes it possible for kids to have access to bikes by repairing donated bikes and re-selling them to the community; or letting kids earn “Bike Bucks” if they don’t have the funds available to purchase them.  Bike Bucks are earned by working in the bike shop, so kids are also learning skills at the same time! It’s a ministry, and they are reaching kids with God’s love through bikes. It’s no wonder my husband thinks so highly of this group!

The group of self named ‘Bad Bikers’ he rides with have all agreed to make donations to The Motion Initiative, and I am thanking them with Odwalla for their next ride!

Why Odwalla? When I was younger I traveled a lot for work.  I was a field consultant, and I had the ‘western’ territory.  I remember thinking that one day, when I am an old woman, we will have Odwalla in Michigan.  I loved the stuff, and gulped it down every chance I got before I had to fly East, where Odwalla wasn’t sold.

And look at me now.  An old woman, shopping for Odwalla in Michigan.

I found it at Wal-Mart in the refrigerated section.

Not in the ‘juice and candy’ aisle.

We also got a jump on the donation to The Motion Initiative with a couple of bike accessory starter kits.

I’ve partnered up with Collective Bias, Odwalla, (well, and my husband’s bike friends) to organize this “Game Day Challenge” equipment drive as a Champions for Kids SIMPLE Service Project and if you are moved to do so, I would LOVE it if you would join us in supporting The Motion Initiative!

I’ll show you pictures of our donation in a few weeks.  In the meantime; you can follow the Twitter hashtag #OdwallaCFK to see what other SIMPLE Service Projects {fun ideas to improve kids’ health} other bloggers are doing, and follow Champions For Kids on Twitter and Facebook.  Also; enjoy the Active Kids PageLet’s do what we can to keep ALL of the kids in our community active!

This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias. #CBias.  All opinions are my own.

What a cool mission. My coworkers and I bought a bike last year for a family in need. As soon as I saw that on the list I wanted to get it. Every child deserves the joy of owning a bike!

  10. The Motion Initiative sounds like a really great cause! I love that they offer bikes to kids, but also teach them how to work on the bikes. That is awesome. It’s great to see folks so involved and so nice of you to go out of your way to thank them with Odwalla!
