Kids Guide To Laugh Fest March 8-18

LaughFest is back! And so is my guide to top picks for free, family friendly fun.

See the LaughFest schedule for all events, including other kids events that have an entry fee as well as those only appropriate for grown ups. There are some great shows scheduled, and the website is really easy to navigate this year; just click ‘Family Friendly’.  I just wanted to put a guide out there for folks who might not be able to afford the tickets, but still want to join in on the fun :)

  • LaughFest kicks off in Rosa Parks Circle on March 8 at 5:45 PM where your family can be part of a world record! That’s right – the most people wearing chicken beaks.  It looks like they will have some to distribute; but you might want to BYOB(eak).
  • Are your kids Grand Rapids socialites? See if they recognize anyone in Brian Kelly’s photographs of people in the community at the  the Laughter and Life Portraits exhibit at the Fifth Third Bank lobby {open Monday through Friday 9:00AM to 9:00 PM, Saturday 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sunday 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM}.  Honestly, I am not sure which 5/3 branch this is and it’s not on the LaughFest website, so I’ll try to find out and update….
  • Head over to the Student Art Showcase at MoDiv Shops where they have a gallery dedicated to laughter with works from students of all ages.
  • “Don’t Let The Pigeon Fall Down Laughing”, various times and dates all at different branches of the Grand Rapids Public Library. This program for children 7 and under will be a riotous, interactive celebration of his most popular stories and characters.  Stories, crafts, activities, and a funniest caption writing contest.
  • Saturday March 10 and and again on March 17 at 2:00 PM go see ” The Surprising Story of the Three Little Pigs” at the Grand Rapids Civic Theatre. They changed up the story; I wonder if my kids will even know?!
  • Tuesday, March 13 at 6:00 PM is the Kids Joke Night at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum.  You have to sign them up ahead of time if they want to participate. Keep it clean, kids.
  • Wednesday, March 14 at 7:00 PM see the Dance Showcase at the Grand Rapids Ballet.
  • Bring your pet to the Ford Fieldhouse March 17 at 9:00 AM for the “People And Pets” event.  See who wins the pet look alike contest, play games, and enjoy the giveaways and entertainment!
