Happy President’s Day!
It’s always exciting to talk about this holiday during an election year, because it opens up a conversation about how people get to be president in the first place. The next Republican primary is right here in Michigan, so we are seeing lots of advertising and the kids are beginning to ask questions about running for President. My husband and I always take our kids to vote with us, but we decided to let them have a chance to vote for themselves this time!

First, A.P. read us “Duck For President“, a fun kids book about a duck who gets fed up with his duck responsibilities and decides to oust the farmer, then the governor, and eventually… the President. Not only does Duck run a solid campaign, there are several recounts too.
When we were finished with the book, the kids went to the ‘polls.
They recreated the vote in the book using duck eggs {Red, White and Blue Jordan almonds from Oh! Nuts.}.
They counted out the correct number of votes based on the story and put the eggs in the ballot box.
A.P. demanded a recount.
After the counts were tallied and Duck was declared the winner, they ate all of the ballots.
After all; voting can make you very hungry.
