Catchin’ Anything?

After I decided to take my kids fishing this summer, I realized I had no idea where to begin. Apparently it should’t have been too hard, Field and Stream Magazine named Grand Rapids the sixth best fishing city. Well, I guess we were in the right place then.  To find a specific spot, I checked on Pure Michigan’s fishing information.

We thought Millenium Park sounded good, which is the “largest urban park in West Michigan” (doesn’t seem like that big of a deal) and when  completed in 2014 will be “twice as big as Central Park in New York” (OK that kinda does).  So what else did we need?

Oh, fishing licenses. Right. Well, they don’t, because they are minor anglers, but I did. I wasn’t sure where to procure such a thing, so I looked on the DNR page and found a list of licensing agents.

And poles. I got these Daiwa kiddie poles.  There is a time and  a place for Disney Princesses, but fishing is not that time nor that place.

My kids did great! They picked up casting very quickly and although we didn’t catch anything, it was an awesome day. So awesome that I took pictures, and did a Whrrl for your viewing enjoyment.
