Round Up

I have a little gift for you this weekend.  I’m going to save you from roaming all over the blogosphere, looking for contests to enter.  Some fine West Michigan bloggers are holding contests right now and regardless of where you live, some are available for nationwide entry.

  • First, you can enter my Red Gold contest if you haven’t already.  If you have – and you just can’t wait to get some tomatoes in your hands – here is a coupon for $0.50 off two cans.

  • Lisa at Studio Jewel is running a giveaway that you can learn more about on her blog.  Here is a sample of her work – isn’t it beautiful?

  • Sarah’s Deals is giving away these super cute mittens from Vonnie Maurer

These are local to West Michigan so the rest of you are just going to have to be jealous.

  • West Michigan Mommy is holding a contest for Finding Nemo Disney on Ice tickets that you can read more about here.
  • Sarah’s Deals is giving away a gift certificate to Kanani salon in Zeeland.

Good luck, now go enjoy your weekend!

Red Gold Tomatoes – Contest!!

Oh! It’s Thursday.  I guess that means I should join in with the others at The Diaper Diaries and tell you about something I love.  I love recipes – mayhaps you have noticed? For a blog that is supposedly about ‘stuff to do with kids’ I talk about food a lot.  I try and can fruits and vegetables when they are in season, but one can only stand the sight of peaches, corn, strawberries and tomatoes for so long before you start cussing at them.  No one should be brought to a place where they are swearing at produce.

I also am somewhat of a lazy canner, if that is possible.  I get sick of blanching and peeling; so by the time I get to the slicing and dicing I just hack at it a few times and toss it in the pot.  When I am actually cooking something that I want to have some visual appeal, I have to call for backup.  Enter Red Gold.

I don’t use much canned product other than tomatoes, actually.  Since they are going to be compared to my ugly but delicious Summer in Michigan tomatoes they had better taste good.   I know a good tomato when I taste it.  Red Gold is good – want to try them for yourself?  There will be two winners, so no worrying about telling other people about this contest and then having them win and not you.  Here is how to enter:

1 – Leave a comment below

2 - Post a link to this giveaway on Twitter and then come back here and post a link to the tweet.

3 – Follow me on Twitter, and then sent me a tweet (@BigBinderBlog)letting me know.

4 – Become a fan of Big Binder on Facebook.

5 – Blog about this contest and link back to this post.

Every time you to each of these things, leave a comment. Each action will score you one entry.

Two winners will be randomly selected from all eligible entries posted by 3/10/10 at Noon EST. Please make sure there is a way for me to contact you if you win. The prize will be shipped directly to your home; so please enter even if you live in Missouri, or Texas, or Los Angeles, or Kalamazoo.

The prize is really fun.  It’s a giant can:

with this stuff in it:

Good luck!

When Red Gold contacted me and asked if I would be willing to write a review and hold a contest, I said yes and accepted one of the giant cans for myself.  Seems only fair; but the FCC wants you to know.

Things To Do

It’s a little early for the “Things to Do” post, but there are two contests for Playhouse Disney Live tickets to Saturday’s show and I wanted to give you all a fighting chance.  Head over to GR Kids and  Stacey Says to find out more and to enter.  Good luck!

The Zoo reopened Monday after a winter and budget induced three month closing, but there is a Grand Re-Opening Bash on Saturday.  Personally, I’m going to wait until the weather is a little warmer.  I know what you’re going to say. The animals are more active when it’s cold.  Here’s the problem with that:  I’m more cold when it’s cold.

The Home And Garden Show runs all weekend and while it isn’t exactly a kid’s event but they have a lot of kid-specific activities planned this year. I’m glad to hear that, because last year there were some professional sand castle builders who were very intense and serious about their craft, and a mob of kids who wanted to play in the sand and it got kind of ugly. There is nothing worse than getting the stink eye from a Sand Castle Builder.

The Grand Rapids Symphony presents Ferdinand the Bull Saturday.  If you can’t go to one of the school performances, this is worth going on the weekend.  It’s a fantastic book and your kids will love it.

Blandford Nature Center’s Sugarbush is back.  This is a fantastic and unique learning opportunity you will be hearing more about from me next week.  I love me some maple syrup and need an entire post dedicated to it’s harvest.

On Sunday,  a warmer, free-er event is happening at the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum.  The Target Free Sunday series wraps up.  Get it while it lasts, folks.

Meijer Gardens brought back its butterflies.  Personally, they freak me out but I go every year. For the children.  We have a membership, but you can win tickets from GR Now too (hurry and enter by Wednesday!)  Or, check out the Circulating Membership for a free pass from the Grand Rapids Public Library.

Menu Plan Monday

mpm-1My kitchen is beckoning me back.  I lost some ground on the Healthy Food Front while I was working my seasonal job, but it’s time to fill my family’s bellies with better meals.  Of course this means that I have to plan ahead; and if I’m planning ahead why not join up with everyone at Menu Plan Monday?

Monday:  I was SUPPOSED to go to SAN CHEZ with some AWESOME BLOGGERS but my HUSBAND – I’ll stop right there and say that we did not effectively communicate our schedules.  So we will be eating leftovers from Sunday.  And I’m sure all the taste of bitterness will be out of our mouths by then.

Tuesday: We’ll be having Homemade Chicken Nuggets from Kitchen Stewardship. I’m also serving these little frozen half-ears of corn (cooked of course) that A.P. thinks are ‘neat’ and begged me to buy.

Wednesday:  I’m going to be making these Beef Fajitas.  With Red Gold Tomatoes.  And if you come back and visit me on Thursday (or late Wednesday night – I’m kind of excited), I will have a really fun contest for you and maybe, if you’re very lucky, you will be making your own Beef Fajitas with Red Gold Tomatoes soon.

Thursday:  It’s kind of a busy night with some sort of bike-related event for my husband (sorry, I… wasn’t really listening) and A.P.’s conferences.  I am going to make this very, very yummy sounding Italian Sausage Soup with Tortellini  along with some bread and a salad from Lisa at Studio Jewel and hope that we don’t eat seconds (or thirds) and make ourselves late.

Friday:  Ahh Friday.  This is the day I take off for my Mom’s Weekend Away.  I try and do it every year.  One weekend.  One mom.  One hotel room.  One good book. While it is expensive and seems indulgent; it more than makes up for itself in psychotherapist’s bill savings.  I will be leaving my family with a Garden Ranch Pizza  from Kelly the Kitchen Kop (scroll down the page for the recipe).  It’s my way of saying Mommy loves you – but needs to get the heck out of Dodge for a few days.

What are you having this week?
