I am a bit under the weather. Actually, I wasa bit under the weather, so I went to the doctor. He gave me a pretty good prescription that makes me forget all about the weather. He suspects I have Strep Throat, but not Strep A which is the normal one. “One of the other lettered streps” he said. I had no idea there were others. He swabbed my mess of a throat and sent a culture away to see what’s going on. So until something grows somewhere in a petri dish, I just keep myself hepped up on goofballs and slurping soup because everything else hurts.
My husband is laid off this week, and is totally taking care of everything. I am feeling very lucky that I can just spend my time resting. And blogging, which we all know is an important part of any recovery.
**Here’s a little update. I wrote this at some point yesterday. I thought I published it, but in my haze I must have forgotten. This was sometime after I set my toaster on fire, and before I got a CT scan, tonsil ‘surgery’, and many different medications (one of which, it turns out, I was allergic to) at Butterworth’s ER. I’m doing way better today – but how hard is that?
I know we just got past Mother’s Day, and this would be a better Father’s Day post, but I think it is too cool to wait. I was reading in my alumni magazine about a program called “All Pro Dad.” It is a program that is dedicated to strengthening the bonds between fathers and their children. Tony Dungy (a former NFL coach) and Mark Richt (the University of Georgia head football coach, which is why it was in my alumni magazine. Go Dawgs.) have teamed up for the program
It is a website built for dudes. There are football helmets all over it. It encourages dads to spend one minute a day reading the All Pro Dad Play of the Day email. Dads can just sign up right on the website. They are also encouraged to spend one hour a month at one of the All Pro Dad’s Day Breakfast chapters. There are chapters all over the country, including two here in Grand Rapids.
Dads are also encouraged to spend one day a year at an All Pro Dad Father & Kids Experience. These are held at different locations throughout the country. There are also articles and resources on the website. I think this is really cool, and know that there are a lot of dads who want something like this, but the ‘guy’ version instead. My husband is an amazing dad, and he summed this program up in one word: “awesome”.
